Bunting Birthday Cake

One of our lovely regular customers requested a cake for a ladies get together where several of the ladies were celebrating birthdays. With lots of different people to please we went for a pretty, modern design which picks up on the huge trend for bunting we have seen everywhere recently.

We have been looking for an excuse to play with paste patterning, which is a technicque for creating patterned sheets of sugarpaste where the pattern goes all the way through the icing. This was the perfect technique for creating sugar bunting and we were really pleased with the results – as was the customer!

Horse Racing Birthday Cake

This 65th birthday cake is our favourite horse themed cake to date! The jockey’s silks are made to match the birthday boy’s and his friends’ racing colours so naturally, to keep the peace at the party, neither of them could be winning so the lead horse is racing in Ice Maiden Cakes colours!! We thought the retired, grey haired horse relaxing in the pasture was a nice touch too Keep scrolling down to see the character of each little horse up close.

This cute 50th birthday cake was ordered for a lady who loves rabbits. Being a polite bunny he couldn’t possibly turn up to the party empty handed so we made him complete with a little boquet of sugar flowers

UnIced Tiered Cake

When it comes to our personal taste in cake at Ice Maiden HQ then it’s all about the cake itself, the less icing the better as far as I’m concerned in particular! So we really enjoyed making this two tier uniced cake and proving that it can still be pretty even without icing! The bottom tier was luscious lemon cake filled with lemon curd and lemon buttercream and the top tier was almond cake filled with vanilla buttercream and black cherry conserve. All topped off with strawberries from our garden and a light dusting of icing sugar :)

Toby Tiger Christening Cake

This cute little christening cake was made for a wee boy who’s family nickname is Toby Tiger so what else could be put on the top except a baby tiger. We think the little curly tuft on the top of his head at least trebles the cuteness factor

Gold Butterfly Spiral Cake

This lovely golden wedding anniversary cake is a scaled down version of our very popular butterfly spiral wedding cake. We had fun turning the butterflies gold as everytime we tried to spray them they took off across the kitchen with the blast of air from the edible spray can! We were pleased with the end result once we managed to stop them flying away and so was the customer. The lovely photograph comes courtesy of Hedgehog Photographic who are based just up the hill from us!

Police Retirement Cake

This cake was a fun combination to make for a retiring police officer who was looking foward to spending quality time in his shed with his woodworking tools! We enjoy making retirement cakes as our customers love them to reflect all the recipients hobbies and quirks so they are always fun We were particularly pleased with the bradawl on this cake, the icing for the handle was carefully blended to look like wood and then ‘varnished’ with confectioners glaze to give a super-realistic effect.
