We have had lots of animals cakes to make in the Ice Maiden kitchen just lately but this cheeky lion birthday cake has been our favourite of the bunch. Not only is he fantastically handsome he speaks French! It really tested our high school french lessons piping the inscription on this cake :0 Lets hope the birthday boy’s smile is as wide as the lion’s when he sees his special cake.

Although made by our fair hands, this adorable elephant design is from Lindy Smith’s fantastic ‘Party Animals’ book which is packed full of gorgeous carved animal birthday cakes. This was the perfect choice for an elephant mad 21st birthday girl!

Teenagers Bedroom Birthday Cake

One of the things we love doing best here in the Ice Maiden kitchen is detailed sugar modelling so we had a great time making this representation of a teenage girl’s bedroom. The customer wanted to reflect her daughter’s many interests in a special 13th birthday cake so we suggested this novel idea to bring together photography, shopping, clothes and animals in one cake!

The bed itself is made from our rich chocolate fudge recipe and all elements of the models are edible, including the photography magazines which were created using rice paper and our edible printing system. The outfit, hair colour and hair style were all chosen to reflect the style of the birthday girl.

Cheeky Monkey Birthday Cake

We just love making cakes here in the Ice Maiden kitchen – that goes without saying! But sometimes when we are decorating the process just takes over. One minute you are looking at a freshly baked homemade sponge cake and the next minute a gorgeous hand crafted cake has appeared before your eyes! The intervening 3 or 4 hours seem to go by in a blur as the cake takes over and almost wills itself in to life.

This was definately the case with this fantastically fun kids birthday cake. One minute a scrummy lemon sponge cake, the next a cheeky little monkey swinging in a tree We hope that little Bobi loved him as much as we did!

Text Book Graduation Cake

When asked to crete a graduation cake for a mature student we suggested something based on a relevant text book along with a scroll bearing the graduates name and qualifications to give a more grown up feel. The resulting cake bears the most unusual thing we have ever iced on to a cake!
