This is the kind of wedding cake we have a real passion for here at Ice Maiden Cakes, a cake that really is unique to the couple and shows off their personalities and interests. My eyes lit up at the consultation when the bride said the words ‘hot air balloon’ as I’d had a hankering to make a cake like this for a while.
The bottom tier of the cake shows the church and the wedding party with the guests waving up at the happy couple on the top tier as they fly away in their hot air balloon. Jon and Caroline also wanted a subtle nod to their obsession with board games so we added a couple on the base tier sitting under a tree absorbed in a game!
The cake topper is made from Artista which looks like sugar but is much more durable so it can be removed and kept as a memento of their day. All the details of the bride and groom are matched to their outfits on the day – you wouldn’t believe how long it took to cut the ribbons for those itty-bitty medals on Jon’s chest
The bottom tier was a monster 12″ carrott cake, the middle a 10″ chocolate fudge and the top an 8″ brandy-fed fruit cake.
